Web18 jan. 2010 · Hello guys and gals I have uncovered a very slightly used 9" model A on a factory sheet metal stand in my barn and it is covered with the original cosmoline everywhere. I have tried carb and choke cleaner in the past and works great but also softens underlying paint. What solvents are out there that will remove this and not hurt the paint. Really hot running water and a stiff brush works without the need for solvents. A heat gun, a lot of time with a hair dryer or suspended over a wood stove will leech the cosmoline from the wood.
